Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with ¼ cup of melted butter. Spread the brown sugar evenly over the bottom of the prepared pan.
Arrange the Pineapple: Drain the pineapple slices, reserving the juice. Arrange the pineapple slices in a single layer over the brown sugar in the pan. You can overlap them slightly if needed.
Make the Cake Batter: Prepare the yellow cake mix according to the package directions, but substitute the reserved pineapple juice for the water called for in the recipe. If the package calls for oil, use that. If it calls for melted butter, then omit the ½ cup of melted butter listed separately in our ingredients. If the package calls for both water and melted butter, substitute the pineapple juice for the water and still use the ½ cup of melted butter. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Pour and Drizzle: Pour the cake batter evenly over the pineapple slices. Drizzle the remaining ½ cup of melted butter evenly over the top of the cake batter.
