Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, crumble the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain off any excess grease. Season with salt and pepper while cooking.
Make the pizza burger mix: Stir in the pizza sauce and Italian seasoning into the cooked ground beef. Heat through, stirring occasionally, until everything is well combined and heated. Simmer for about 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Assemble the burgers: Spoon the pizza burger mixture onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns. Don’t be shy – pile it on!
Add the cheese: Top each with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese.
Melt the cheese: You have a couple of options here:
Oven: Place the assembled burgers on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Microwave: Microwave each burger individually for 20-30 seconds, or until the cheese is melted. Watch carefully to avoid overheating.
Broiler: Place the assembled burgers on a baking sheet and broil for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch very carefully to prevent burning.
Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy your trip down memory lane!
