Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Heat Things Up: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan or two round cake pans for easy release after baking.
Step 2: Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of white sugar, and 1 box of vanilla instant pudding mix. Use a whisk to mix the dry ingredients together until they are evenly distributed.
Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients
Incorporate Eggs, Water, and Oil: Add 3 large eggs, 1 cup of water, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil to the dry mixture. If using, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for enhanced flavor.

Mix Until Smooth: Using an electric mixer or a whisk, mix the batter on medium speed until all ingredients are well combined and the batter is smooth, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4: Bake the Cake
Pour into Prepared Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan(s), spreading it evenly with a spatula.
Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes (for round pans) or 35-40 minutes (for a 9×13 pan), or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
