Step 1: Prepare the Cake
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for about 2 minutes until the mixture is smooth.
Carefully stir in the boiling water (the batter will be thin). Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 2: Create the Silken Cream Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to beat until the cream forms stiff peaks. Be careful not to overbeat!
